Alexey Yermakov

I’m an Electrical & Computer Engineering PhD candidate at the University of Washington, advised by Dr. J. Nathan Kutz. I hold an MS degree in Applied Mathematics from UW, and BS degrees in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors.

My research sits at the intersection of machine learning and the physical sciences, focusing on symbolic regression and model discovery for scientific and dynamical systems - including applications to seismic wavefields, satellite communications anomaly detection, and nonlinear wave dynamics. I’m also a lead developer of the Common Task Framework for Science.

Before starting my PhD, I worked as a software engineer at NASA/Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, and Workiva, where I worked on flight software, satellite communications, and search infrastructure.

I’m fortunate enough to be a National Science Foundation Graduate Research (NSF GRFP) Fellow.
